.
The Portuguese Science Council (FCT) has appraised the outcomes of the 18-month period when FALCO received direct funding as an Exploratory Research Project (EXPL/HAR-HIS/1135/2021).
.
FALCO was awarded a rating of Excellent, the highest possible, in its final evaluation by an international committee of eight experts led by CSIC Professor Cristina de la Puente.
.
The experts praised FALCO as “a laudable exploratory project” that broke new ground for its innovative approach to animal-human relationships.
The project’s international reach and impact left a particularly strong impression, with the panel stating that the project exceeded expectations, delivering multiple outputs and forging global research links from Portugal to Europe, North Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula, while creating resources for future cross-disciplinary work.
“The project’s implications are not only relevant for the Medieval history of Portugal, but demonstrate a huge variety of connectivities in time and space”, the committee noted.
.
Special thanks go to the entire research team and partner institutions, whose collaboration was essential to grounding the project in living heritage and enhancing its international reach.
