As a zooarchaeologist, I have worked extensively on diverse time periods and European geographical areas, with a strong focus on faunal assemblages from Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Spain. My main interests lie in the historical periods (the Roman period, the Middle Ages, the Modern Era and Contemporary times), and include understanding subsistence strategies (animal husbandry, poultry keeping, hunting and fowling); examining the cultural meaning of animals’ and social differentiation through the analysis of animal remains; analysing worked bone and antler; and recognising formation processes of archaeological sites through taphonomical analysis. I am one of the coordinators of the Medieval period Working Group (MWG) of the International Council for Archaeozoology (ICAZ).
