Rémy Cordonnier has a PhD in art history, and since 2012 is head of the ancient books collection of the Public Library of the Urban District of the Pays de Saint-Omer. He is a temporary teacher and associate researcher at the Institut de Recherches Historiques du Septentrion (Université de Lille Nord de France – CRNS) and collaborates with the Institute of Medieval Studies at NOVA University of Lisbon. His research focuses on medieval iconography, studied from the angle of the use of pictures in knowledge transmission, of visual exegesis and of animal representations in medieval art. He is the author, with Christian Heck, of the “Bestiary of the Middle Ages”, published in 2011 by Citadelle and Mazenod, republished in 2018 and translated into English, German and Italian. He is currently preparing a book on Guillaume le Clerc’s Bestiary, to be published in Brepol’s Rilma Corpus Collection.
