Hélder Carvalhal (CIDEHUS, University of Évora, Portugal) has a PhD in early modern history (2022). His research interests range from economic and social history since 1500, labour history, and global well being and living standards, to gender studies, material culture, and war studies, having worked in several international projects over the years. He is the editor, with André Murteira and Roger Lee de Jesus, of The First World Empire. Portugal, War, and Military Revolution (Abindgon: Routledge, 2021).
