Sónia works at the Laboratório de Arqueociências (LARC-DGPC) in Lisbon, and is a member of BIOPOLIS, CIBIO-InBIO and of UNIARQ. Her work focuses on the relationship through time between human and other animals in their environment, as reflected in faunal assemblages (mostly fish) recovered from archaeological sites. Besides a number of research papers, she is a co-editor of Themes in Old World Zooarchaeology : From the Mediterranean to the Atlantic (Oxbow 2011).
