Art of Falconry in Central Portugal

Along with the Associação de Desenvolvimento do Carvalhal, a local organisation, FALCO team member Nunziatella Alessandrini coordinated The Art of Falconry, an event taking place on 18 October 2025 at the Quinta da Granja in Carvalhal do Bombarral, Central Portugal. The event included talks by Filipe Themudo Barata and falconer António Carapuço, who introduced the tools associated with this art and engaged in dialogue with the large audience in attendance. The event concluded with a demonstration by the falconers present, showcasing the flight of two falcons using the lure.

Following the publication in Portugal of Tratados de Falcoaria – Coletânea séc. XIV-XVI (Salvaterra de Magos, 2024), translated, edited, and annotated by Barata and Alessandrini, the subject of falconry and its history continues to attract particular interest.
